Fundamental policy.
January 2007 - Oslo.
His Majesty King Harald of Norway opened the year with a speech where he among other things said that, "In our modern welfare society it is not easy to search for the extraordinaire and constantly mesure your life against your neighbour. Then there is a chance that you will be disappointed. Maybe we should keep the A4 life as the good life?"
The A4 life is perhaps defined as when you have a mortgage and a job that pays that mortgage, enough money to make ends meet with food and clothes.
First of all this statement is not something I can personally come to term with. And I understand that speeches he makes must be something everybody can easily swallow more or less. Norway is a boring country, and most people would not understand if the King said something like, "Listen up you lazy sons of bitches, I can only promise blood sweat and tears for the next year."
It is hard to get to the A4 life in the first place: It most definitely takes a lot of effort to get to the A4 life. Lots of education then get a relevant steady job that pays enough to make bets in the real estate market.
Norway has a lot of socialism, but socialism only works because of the oil money. If this was a real economy Norway would be in worse shape.
Even if Norway is supposedly the richest country in the world it is easy to see many signs of low living standard among A4 people. Norway may be one of the richest states in the world, but the people are not particularly rich.
Communism is in essence where all men are equal and should have the same without regard to their abilities. In communism you should shorten your abilities as much as possible. In communism the dumb is the winner and he will receive the same standard of living as the brilliant investor and business man.
Communism has been tried and it did not work. Now we are trying something in between communism and capitalism, (maybe called kindism, naivism?). Brilliant men shorten your expectations and long live the dumb, sick and lazy.
I would rather have the risk of being dissatisfied than to face the shrinking standard of living of the working A4 man. 2007 is going to be marked by a hell of a year in terms of blood, sweat and tears and it is going to be focused on moving up and beyond the A4 box.
